Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Xbox 360 / Playstation 3) [Review]

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Xbox 360 / Playstation 3) [Review]
There are a decent amount of hardcore gamers who believe Final Fantasy XIII was the weakest game SquareEnix made in the lifetime of all Final Fantasy.  I don’t follow this logic since I think SquareEnix took a different route in telling and outlining a story in the Final Fantasy realm while creating an enjoyable, albeit linear, game experience.  I will agree Final Fantasy XIII is more movie-oriented...

Cheap-Ass Game of the Week: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas [360, PS3]

Cheap-Ass Game of the Week: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas [360, PS3]
I’ll tell you a quick story to give you a rudimentary history of my brutal and inhumane struggles with the Rainbow Six franchise:  In 1998, I bought a video game titled “Rainbow Six” from Media Play who is no longer in business.  The game came on four CD’s and took over a half an hour to install on my cheap-ass Packard Hell (in part…it was modified to the teeth) desktop computer.  Rainbow...

Batman: Arkham City [PC: Steam, Xbox 360, PS3]

Batman: Arkham City [PC: Steam, Xbox 360, PS3]
I have to apologize to my fans for not being online much as of late, see, I’ve been busy. I don’t mean with anything tangible, like work or taking care of the twins or anything along the lines a normal responsible human being. You see, I’m Batman. I have a job to do: Clean the city of Arkham from the bad-guy scum trying to take over the seedy night. It’s my duty to prevent this act from happening...

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon [Xbox 360]

The first video game I played on the computer was a flight simulator called Chuck Yeager’s Advanced Flight Trainer. The game started off on an aircraft carrier with you, as the player, sitting in the cockpit of a jet. I could start the engines and move the plane itself; however the furthest I ever flew was into the vast sea at the end of the runway. After 30 minutes of repeatedly dunking myself...

F1 2011 [PS3, Xbox360, PC]

It seems there has been a rash of enjoyable sports games of recent, most of them solid franchises with minor upgrades to the core engine and game play aspects themselves making them even better than before. F1 2011 from Codemasters is no different. What’s been upgraded, you ask? Everything is polished, from graphics, audio, physics, environment, realism and controller vibration to starting a racing...

Cheap-Ass Game of the Week: Bastion

I could jump up and down a few dozen times and tell you to stop asking me inane questions such as “Why?” and get Bastion. Download it for PC or Xbox, just get it. Stop reading this and go get it now. If you’re still reading this, you are one of the few intelligent people who wants to know the honest answer of “why?” and I’ll break Bastion down into three major categories for why you need...

NHL 12 [Xbox 360 / PS3]

Here’s a prediction: About this time next year, EA Sports will release a game titled NHL 13. EA Sports game reviews are starting to read more like the New York Times stock market report and less like a game review each time a new one is released: “Not much new to report, small changes here and there, suggestion is: buy if you need it for some reason.” I still enjoy playing hockey video games,...

Dead Island [Xbox 360, PS3, PC-Steam]

I’ll say it one last time: I’m tired of zombies. Can we please come up with a monster a bit more creative than an undead human who feasts on the brains of living humans? Better yet, think of it this way: how do chickens see us? Do they design video games where you need heavy artillery to prevent the humans from stealing their legs and wings? No. Neither do cows, or pigs, or whatever the meat...

Madden 12 [Xbox 360, PS3]

(/Begin conversation with clerk at game store.) “Hey look, a new version of Madden hit the store shelves. I can guess without playing, features include better graphics, updated game-play and new animations for tackles, hits and standing on the sideline shivering.” “Wow, are you some type of psychic?” “Nope. I know what EA attempts to pass off as “Updated and New.” (/End conversation...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution [PC, Steam, Xbox 360, PS3]

Any dystopic-future based game which starts in the land of Detroit is off to a great start in my book. I’ve lived here all my life and can already see the decay forming on the seams of the city. In 15 years Detroit may resemble the opening of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, however, I hope this never comes to fruition and instead installs the OCP/RoboCop style of future I wanted to see as a kid. Never...
