Weekly Blend #301 – Fact or April Fool

Weekly Blend #301 - Fact or April Fool
It’s April Fools’ Day, which means a flood of stories have come out created by other sites in hopes of fooling their readers. We dive through those stories as well as some other unbelievable tales in an effort to sort out the fact and fiction. You can also hear our reviews of Wrath of the Titans and Mirror Mirror, as well as our personal favorite sword and sandal type movies. We also debate...

Wrath of the Titans [Review]

Wrath of the Titans [Review]
When we last left the adventures of the demigod Perseus, he had survived a horrific remake of an already flawed and sadly dated (although much beloved) iconic film. While there was a lot of room for improvement from the original, the remake wound up introducing a slew of new problems ranging from 3D effects that were so bad that the movie became the example of what not to do with 3D to a plot so riddled...

Rafe’s Top Ten Movies of 2011

Rafe's Top Ten Movies of 2011
For the first time in all of my years of doing this, I’m not incredibly thrilled with my end of the year list. As usual, there are movies appearing on other people’s lists that I haven’t gotten to see, and unfortunate timing means I won’t be seeing them for another couple of weeks at the best. Rather than hold out on my “Best of” list for 2011 until the point that...

Clash of the Titans [Blu-ray]

In Hollywood’s tradition of remaking 80’s films, Louis Leterrier brings us an up-to-date version of the 80’s action-adventure Clash of the Titans. However, unlike other titles that Hollywood has updated, this one may have been begging for it. Technology has finally caught up to the needs of this film to depict the epic creatures and Gods in the glory and magnitude needed to convey this story....

Clash of the Titans [Review]

Clash of the Titans [Review]
The fact that it’s taken this long to bring my Clash of the Titans review to light should quickly expose an overview of my thoughts on the movie: it’s bad. While I’m a big fan of the original, I can easily see how there is plenty of room for a remake. The effects (classic Harryhausen effects that they are) don’t hold up well in the contemporary world. The music is cheesy. And, of course, there’s...

The Hurt Locker [DVD Review]

Entering the domain of the war movie is tricky territory. No longer will the positive propagandist pictures of the past or the campy patriotic cheers be acceptable. Just as news coverage of war has gotten grittier and realistic over time, so too our movies have had to evolve. At the same time, filmmakers don’t want to cross the line into such a realistic depiction that it becomes insensitive or an...

Clash of the Titans Trailer Reveals 300-style Action

My guess is that Avatar is going to rock, at least in the trailer department. Based on the number of awesome trailers that have hit the Internet over the past few days, I can only imagine what it’ll be like to sit through the trailers in front of Avatar. The one I wasn’t expecting: a trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans, starring Terminator Salvation’s Sam Worthington as Perseus. I love...
