I probably should have put up my actual Oscar predictions a week ago, but let’s be honest: nobody is using what I say to place any bets in office betting pools. There are certainly a lot better qualified people to use as a basis for gambling, say Nate Silver, for example (whose predictions I still haven’t looked at beyond bookmarking the page). We’re midway though November and the early Oscar buzz has started. Already magazines and online outlets are starting their predictions: Who will be nominated? Who will win? It’s a pointless endeavor I find so interesting, mostly because the lead contenders for the Oscars typically haven’t even been released yet. What we wind up with is a bunch of predictions about movies that will be overshadowed...
