Lincoln [Review]

Lincoln [Review]
Although not one of the “founding fathers,” Abraham Lincoln was always promoted as one of the icons of American history in my early years, right alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin. In retrospect, it’s not hard to see why: Lincoln epitomizes the American Dream. Coming from humble beginnings, Lincoln took responsibility for his own education and eventually...

Weekly Blend #320 – Everything Comes Back to Joss Whedon

Weekly Blend #320 - Everything Comes Back to Joss Whedon
We’re back with reviews of Lincoln, Skyfall, Wreck-It Ralph, and Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Yet, no matter what we talk about, everything seems to come back to Joss Whedon. What have we been watching lately? Joss Whedon. What do we think about Disney buying Star Wars? Joss Whedon is the support for our stance. What are our thoughts on the Kevin Clash scandal? Okay, maybe that...

The Dark Knight Rises [Review]

The Dark Knight Rises [Review]
Heading into The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan had a couple of things going for him. First of all, his last installment, The Dark Knight, is largely considered to be the best of the Batman stories committed to film, and considered by some (including myself) to be one of the top super-hero stories period. Secondly, Nolan went into The Dark Knight Rises with the knowledge that this was his final...

Trailer Park: The Dark Knight Rises – Trailer 2

Trailer Park: The Dark Knight Rises - Trailer 2
It’s traditionally accepted that third chapters aren’t as good as their predecessors. While that might be unfair to newer movies, there is a baseline for this reasoning: The Godfather, Part III, Spider-Man 3, Superman 3 (you know, the one with Richard Pryor?), all of them build on a successful foundation but unable to live up to the success of the first two movies. It’s understandable...

Weekly Blend #294 - And the Nominees Are...
The big news this week was the announcement of the Oscar nominations, which Rafe and Tim take an in-depth look at over the course of this episode. We also review a few Oscar contenders (The Artist and Bridesmaids) and one movie that should have been a contender (50/50) as we continue catching up on the missed movies of 2011. Add in a little bit of television talk (good-bye Chuck) and a discussion...

50/50 [DVD Review]

50/50 [DVD Review]
As much as the trailer for 50/50 looked interesting, I was wary about watching Seth Rogen do another movie where he plays friend to someone who is dying of some disease. After all, we already saw him do that for Judd Apatow in Funny People and, well, it wasn’t that funny. The fact that 50/50 is produced by Rogen and is based on the story of his own friend wasn’t enough to convince me and so I wound...

50/50 [Review]

50/50 is a laugh-out-loud comedy one moment, and an eye wiping drama the next. It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Adam, a twenty-something who is unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare spinal cancer. His best friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) is on hand to try to make sure Adam survives this event with a smile, and hopefully get laid in the process. Adam is a resilient fellow who tries his best to power through...

Trailer Park: The Dark Knight Rises

If there’s one movie that we’re looking forward to the most, it’s The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Nolan left fans hanging on a string with the dramatic ending of The Dark Knight and most of us have wanted to see the next chapter from the moment we walked out of that theater. We’ll give him some leeway since he did make Inception, but come on...

The Dark Knight Rises

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. It’s Batman. It’s Christopher Nolan. That combination hasn’t let us down yet, and I certainly don’t expect this to be any different. Nolan set this chapter up with the dramatic ending of The Dark Knight and I’ve been waiting for the follow...

Weekly Blend #262 – Clear Little Pill

This was a really good weekend in theaters, as our reviews of Paul, Limitless, and The Lincoln Lawyer in this week’s episode show. We also look at Sigourney Weaver’s Imaginary Heroes, talk about Comedy Central’s Greg Giraldo tribute, and discuss the latest entries in the super-hero world: Wonder Woman’s costume for the new television show and the latest Batman and Superman movie...
