Weekly Blend #271 – Skadoosh

The topic of the week is sequels: how do you do follow up a popular movie with a sequel that keeps fans interested without pissing them off. With Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Hangover Part II in theaters, we have some good examples of what (and what not) to do. We also finish up our Artist of the Month with Jarhead and Restrepo and mourn the passing of Jeff Conaway. We’ll be taking the next two weeks...

The Hangover Part II [Review]

The Hangover was a flash of lightning – a chaotic driven comedy that managed to transcend the raunch-comedy genre. Even people who didn’t care for the crude comedy style of the genre found amusement in the 2009 Todd Phillips comedy. The movie served as a break-out vehicle for Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis (who had each found smaller amounts of fame until The Hangover made...

Margaret’s Trailer Park: The Hangover Part II

Hello, welcome to Margaret’s trailer park. I’m your host, Margaret “the snark” Williams. Okay, you caught me again. I’m not Margaret. It’s Rafe. Margaret is slacking this week aka – “on the sauce” (see the last time I filled in for her) and I’m filling in. Honestly, it’s her loss, because this week happens to be the week the full-length trailer for The Hangover Part II hit...

Weekly Blend #262 – Clear Little Pill

This was a really good weekend in theaters, as our reviews of Paul, Limitless, and The Lincoln Lawyer in this week’s episode show. We also look at Sigourney Weaver’s Imaginary Heroes, talk about Comedy Central’s Greg Giraldo tribute, and discuss the latest entries in the super-hero world: Wonder Woman’s costume for the new television show and the latest Batman and Superman movie...

Video Review Roundup: Paul, Limitless, and The Lincoln Lawyer

We know you’re busy and don’t always have time to check out written reviews, and our full-length hour-long podcast can be a bit hard to fit in for tight schedules. That’s why we’ve started providing video reviews: see what goes on during the podcast as Rafe reviews this week’s new releases, or just listen to hear his take on the new releases. Either way, it’s another...

Limitless [Review]

I’m sure the roots of unlocking the inaccessible portions of our brain or boosting intelligence predate Flowers for Algernon, but the Daniel Keyes novel tends to be the most memorable story with that plot device, and therefore becomes the yardstick to which other tales are compared. Limitless is no Flowers for Algernon. You won’t cheer on the protagonist in the same way you do Algernon’s Charly...

Margaret’s Trailer Park: Limitless

Ready to hit theater screens in just over the next two weeks is Limitless. You know, Limitless. Haven’t heard of it? Yes you have, this movie just has that poor of a title. Let me refresh your memory. In Limitless Bradley Cooper’s character Eddie is down on his luck and ends up taking these clear pills that make him able to perform in all aspects of life at top notch ability. With these pills...

Weekly Blend #231 – The Curse of Taylor Swift

Why are this summer’s movies sucking so badly? This week we trace the cause back a few months to Valentine’s Day, when Rafe warned everyone that Taylor Swift was sucking the talent out of the room. See how many of those cast members are in today’s duds. Also, contrasting reviews of The A-Team, The Karate Kid, looks at Jeff Bridges’ Tron and Wild Bill, and the introduction of...

The A-Team

I don’t know that there’s been an overwhelming desire for the 1980s television series The A-Team to have a big screen adaptation. Looking at old shows that would be ripe for adaptation, the series that made Mr. T a star does seem like a natural fit, with the potential for crazy action sequences and a quantity of explosions that would make Michael Bay envious. Now the movie is here, but in a summer...
