State of the Widescreen Warrior

Frequent visitors to our site will notice there hasn't been much of an update in about a week now. We had mentioned on last week's podcast that this week's episode would be delayed, so that explains a little of it, but the lack of stories, particularly the weekly columns penned by our regular writers isn't contained in that. So, I thought I'd jot down a quick entry to explain what's going on.

In short: life is what happens when you make other plans. The last week has been a textbook example of that. Nothing bad or particularly noteworthy has happened. Nobody's dying any more than usual and no trips have been made to doctors or hospitals. My son has turned one year old, but that's about it. To go more in depth would not only be boring, but counter to the kind of site I try to run here.

Margaret and Jeff have been just as regular with their writing as usual, which means the reason there wasn't a Five & Dime or Margaret's Trailer Park last week was because of me as an editor not having time, not because of them. Both of those as well as a DVD review by Jeff are sitting, waiting for editing. Time for that has simply been scarce; a temporary situation, but one that definitely has had an effect on the site. Even as I write this, I'm exhausted, ready to collapse into a afternoon nap that probably won't happen.

The podcast scheduled to record today isn't going to happen. The reason for this is that there really isn't much for us to talk about. Nobody got to see Alice last weekend (I hope to make that up this week) and none of us got to see the Oscar broadcast on Sunday, which means discussion on those topics would be based on what everyone else is saying, and you don't need us to say that when you can get it elsewhere. There's nothing unique for us to add to the conversation. Add on top of that the new recording equipment that hasn't been unboxed, and the time could be better used resetting the studio and getting some more movies under our belt than recording a new show.

If you're reading this (and this far into this) than it's likely you're one of our dedicated fans. Frankly, you deserve better, especially those who have been kind enough to donate to help us cover the costs of running the site and pick up new equipment for the show. I sincerely offer my apology to you. I know this isn't the way to build a site and an audience and we need to get back on track soon. It's never been the plan to let the site go a week without an update, but, as I said, life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Life takes priority in my book, but the site will start rolling forward again with editorials, reviews, and podcasts very soon. As for the podcast, we'll broadcast a new episode this weekend as usual, and the Zombieland commentary track should go live tonight.
