Margaret's Trailer Park: Brooklyn's Finest

Releasing on March 5th is Brooklyn’s Finest a film about three cops of Brooklyn and how they handle the pressures of their job, their family life, and the potential power to be gained from corruption. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also directed Training Day, which I liked, and Tears of the Sun, which I wasn’t too keen on, Brooklyn’s Finest looks to play out like the typical cop drama with one major exception: the cast.

If nearly anyone else did this film (Vin Diesel comes to mind), I’d roll my eyes and never give it another thought, but this movie brings together Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, and Wesley Snipes with some wicked cornrows. While I’m thrilled to see Richard Gere get back into a roll that doesn’t involve him wooing anyone or dancing, he isn’t the reason the film looks like it could work. Remember, “in Cheadle we trust” because 75% of the time he makes a really strong movie with well rounded characters and solid plot lines, and this could be part of that 75%.

However, the fence starts to shake again when we look at who it’s written by, I’d mention his name, but you’ve never heard of him. To his credit he’s only written one episode of “Sleeper Cell” and that’s it other than this film. So, while the jury is still out on whether this movie will be a hit or a flop, the trailer itself looks to present a fairly strong film with a variety of characters with different angles in the story. Brooklyn’s Finest may not be something to catch in theaters, but it might be worth a DVD rental. See the trailer and ask yourself: are these really the finest?
