Home Theater Pick of the Week: Up
While Pixar’s Up has certainly dominated my attention over the past few weeks, leading up to it’s Blu-ray and DVD release this week, I want to take a minute to point out a few other releases below that haven’t gotten much attention. In fact, there are a couple that people may have missed entirely. In fact, the entire list of Blu-ray releases are worth scanning over this week. If you don’t take the time to scroll through those below, you are doing yourself a great disservice.
The final edition of Watchmen comes out this week, incorporating the footage from Tales of the Black Freighter into the live action movie. While Watchmen has grown on me, I can’t say I’m intrigued enough to buy another copy, and it almost feels like Warner Brothers knows that, because the marketing for Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut has been almost nonexistent.
If you hadn’t noticed Google’s Muppetty transformation over the past week, it’s Sesame Street’s 40th Birthday, and a DVD release celebrates 40 years of sunny days and educational entertainment. Again, I’ve hardly heard anything about this, but with a new child in my home and a deep nostalgia for Sesame Street, I do see myself picking this one up.
Finally, there’s our actual pick of the week. I’ve loved Up since I saw it in theaters and my enjoyment of Carl Fredrickson’s story has only grown with time. As always, the Pixar movie has characters it’s easy to become attached to, and even though the action may bet a little over the top at times, I still find myself quite interested in watching. After all, “Adventure is out there!” Now it’s just able to come home for your enjoyment.
