Margaret's Trailer Park: She's Out of My League

The newest raunch comedy to hit theaters March 12 is She’s Out of My League where we are asked to ponder the question, “How can a 10 go for a 5?” I think the catch is we’ve been pondering that one for at least the last five years. Wait, longer, rewind to American Pie, I’ve been wondering about this for at least that long.

State of the Widescreen Warrior

Frequent visitors to our site will notice there hasn't been much of an update in about a week now. We had mentioned on last week's podcast that this week's episode would be delayed, so that explains a little of it, but the lack of stories, particularly the weekly columns penned by our regular writers isn't contained in that.

March 2010 Artist of the Month: Richard Dreyfuss

Getting his start in 1966 at just age 19, where he appeared on an episode of “Gidget” and “Bewitched,” and working his way up the following year for a bit part in The Graduate, Richard Dreyfuss seems to have never not known professional acting as his career.

Margaret's Trailer Park: The Secret of Kells

If you haven’t heard of The Secret of Kells, don’t worry, you are not alone. It’s the animated film that slipped into the Oscar nominations for best animated picture that virtually no one had even heard of in the US.

Jeff's Five and Dime: Black History Month

Jeff’s Five and Dime is not your typical top-five list. Then again, what is typical about Jeff? In this weekly column Jeff will bring you a top-five list meant to amuse and on the rare occasion, make you think.

WoW: Aspects of the Hunter - Beast Master Fallout

You've heard him talk about WoW on our gaming podcast. Now Rafe writes each week about his favorite Warcraft class - the hunter, offering insights, opinions, and lots of other words about the different aspects of the hunter.

Margaret's Trailer Park: Killers

From the looks of the trailer for the new movie Killers you would think this is the classic, boy meets girl type movie where the suave guy, Spencer, sweeps the down home girl, Jen, off her feet. Through the course of their budding relationship we discover the guy’s life isn’t as simple as we were led to believe.

Margaret's Trailer Park: Brooklyn's Finest

Releasing on March 5th is Brooklyn’s Finest a film about three cops of Brooklyn and how they handle the pressures of their job, their family life, and the potential power to be gained from corruption.

Widescreen Warrior Presents: Full Moon Rising

This week sees the remake The Wolfman come to theaters, continuing on a long legacy of werewolf movies. Of all of the movie monsters, I probably love werewolves the most. They haven't been twisted around or romanticized over the years. Thematically, werewolf stories tend to stay the same: they're about the inner beast of man (or woman). That beast is uncontrollable and untamable.

WoW: Aspects of the Hunter - Love Hunting

You've heard him talk about WoW on our gaming podcast. Now Rafe writes each week about his favorite Warcraft class - the hunter, offering insights, opinions, and lots of other words about the different aspects of the hunter.

Jeff's Five & Dime: Special Super Bowl Commercial Episode

If there is one thing both guys and girls are doing this post-Super Bowl week, it's talking commercials. The advertisements have reached the level equaling the importance of the actual game itself. Being the resident “jock” of the staff here at Wide Screen Warrior, I could easily dissect the game and tell you how the Saints won it or how Payton Manning blew his shot at a second ring.

The Delayed LOST: LA X Parts 1 & 2

As mentioned on the podcast, Rafe’s move away from satellite television and to “peasant TV” has cost him ABC. Each week he’ll give a review/response to the latest episode of Lost as the series wraps up its final season, but that response will be a bit delayed since he doesn’t get to see it the night it airs.

Dear John - Write Your Own Review

It's another snowy weekend in Virginia. Let's be honest though: that's not the reason why we're not seeing Dear John. My wife, who has suddenly identified Channing Tatum and understands why girls go ga-ga over him, said she'd rather have her eyes ripped out then sit through a Nicholas Sparks adaptation.

Jeff's Five and Dime: The Lindy Hop

Jeff’s Five and Dime is not your typical top-five list. Then again, what is typical about Jeff? In this weekly column Jeff will bring you a top-five list meant to amuse and on the rare occasion, make you think.

Margaret's Trailer Park: The Losers

You ever want to see a movie about a couple of renegade cops/FBI agents/CIA operative whatevers who break bad on their own mission, do a bunch of stunts, run around with guns, and give a few comic relief jokes which are fairly lame and tiring? Me neither.

And the 2009 Oscar Nominees Are...

As I said yesterday, we haven’t paid a ton of attention to the various awards on the main site (although our friend Tony has done a great job of keeping track of them on our “super secret” forums which can be found here).

WoW: Aspects of the Hunter - Charlie Brown Can't Kite Either

You've heard him talk about WoW on our gaming podcast. Now Rafe writes each week about his favorite Warcraft class - the hunter, offering insights, opinions, and lots of other words about the different aspects of the hunter.

2009 Razzies Jeer Transformers 2

We haven’t been covering a ton of the awards season here on Widescreen Warrior. Frankly, there are just too many awards and not enough hours in the day. There are always two big sets of awards to capture my attention. The Oscars, which will have their nominees announced tomorrow, and the Razzies, which announced their nominees today.

February 2010 Artist of the Month: Sidney Poitier

We frequently have let current events help dictate who we choose for Artist of the Month, so selecting an artist in February, which has become popularly known as “Black History Month” seems like a no brainer. Narrowing the scope down, however, was a bit more difficult.

Podcast Schedule This Week

It's a snowy weekend in Virginia, which means the perfect atmosphere for kicking back and watching some movies. Unfortunately, it's not the best atmosphere for getting out of the house to discuss them, so the podcast is going to be a little delayed. Fear not, intrepid listener - we'll be broadcasting the show Tuesday afternoon. Why wait two days until then?
