Survivor: One World – Total Dysfunction [Recap and Review]

Survivor: One World - Total Dysfunction [Recap and Review]
So far Survivor: One World has been relatively boring this season. I know, I know, there’s only been one episode, but really, who stood out from that episode? Colton, who mostly stands out because he’s darn pathetic. Nobody else is interesting and we didn’t even see anyone voted out last week, as an injury took that out of the tribe’s hands. As a result, One World is off to an incredibly...

Celebrity Apprentice: “Hero Worship” [Recap and Review]

Celebrity Apprentice: “Hero Worship” [Recap and Review]
Welcome to the new season of Celebrity Apprentice. For the first time in a while, it really feels like the producers have brought the “Celebrity” part to the show’s title. There’s a plethora of identifiable names unlike the past few seasons which have only had a couple of big names mixed in with lesser “celebrities.” George Takei, Lou Ferrigno, Debbie Gibson, Tia Carrere, and more bring...

The River – Los Ciegos [Recap and Review]

The River - Los Ciegos [Recap and Review]
The River continues with its third episode titled “Los Ciegos” with another successful entry into this creepy found footage TV series that is surprisingly more character driven then originally imagined. To its credit, the show is paying attention to the relationships and personalities within the small band of adventurers determined to locate and rescue their lost friend and TV host. This...

Survivor: One World – Two Tribes, One Camp, No Rules [Recap and Review]

Survivor: One World - Two Tribes, One Camp, No Rules [Recap and Review]
Welcome back for a new season of Survivor. This season, the 24th for the series, finds a few new elements to bring into play, as well as some old ones. For instance, this is the first new season in a couple that sees no returning players. No Boston Rob. No Coach. No veterans whatsoever. Secondly, there is no form of Redemption Island this season, which means players who get voted out are out for good....

The River – Marbeley [Recap and Review]

The River - Marbeley [Recap and Review]
Even with its short season at only eight episodes, The River crams two episodes into its season premiere with “Magus” (episode 1) and “Marbeley” (episode 2). The first hour is mostly set up, introducing the characters, the location, the rich history and the nature of the series. It does an admirable job of doing so but sacrifices a bit of the atmosphere and tension along the...

The River – Magus [Recap and Review]

The River - Magus [Recap and Review]
Oren Peli (the creator of Paranormal Activity) brings his found footage style of horror to the small screen with ABC’s The River. The show centers around the host of an “Animal Planet” style documentary show about famous nature explorer Dr. Emmet Cole, who goes missing in the uncharted wilds of the Amazon. On the day of his funeral (after been declared dead), Cole’s beacon goes off. His wife,...

Boardwalk Empire – Season 1 [DVD Review]

Boardwalk Empire - Season 1 [DVD Review]
At long last, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire arrives on DVD. The saga of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Steve Buscemi), debonair politician/outlaw and king of Atlantic City in the 1920’s. The pilot, directed by Martin Scorsese, opens on the eve of Prohibition, as party goers everywhere mourn the loss of sweet alcohol and a new era of bootlegging and rum running begins. Nucky’s right hand man and surrogate...

Winners for the 2012 Golden Globes [Awards Results]

Winners for the 2012 Golden Globes [Awards Results]
This year’s Golden Globes took place on January 15th, 2012. There was mirth, laughter, and even a dog stealing the spotlight on stage as The Artist artists tried to give an acceptance speech. The Widescreen Warrior regulars gathered in our chatroom to watch the ceremony, and a good time was had by all… or at least most. Ricky Gervais was rather subdued, especially in contrast to expectations,...

New Celebrity Apprentice Cast Announced

New Celebrity Apprentice Cast Announced
In my opinion, there is a hierarchy when it comes to reality television. Survivor, which requires a certain amount of stamina and physical and social skills, is toward the top of that hierarchy, particularly when they focus on helping out a good cause (like the seasons where they made obvious contributions to the Elizabeth Glaser foundation). The Apprentice is considerably lower on that hierarchy....

American Horror Story – Afterbirth [Recap and Review]

American Horror Story - Afterbirth [Recap and Review]
With “Afterbirth,” the season finale for American Horror Storie’s first year, the show ends 45 minutes in and then aimlessly, pointlessly meanders around for 15 minutes of epilogue. In fact, in many ways, the final episode loses much of the footing it gained with its last four of five weeks and derails into a uneven mess. It also ends on a predictable and boring note, taking its sweet...
