Easter Eggs – Paul Edition

One of the fun aspects of Paul is that it is chock-full of science-fiction references. Much like Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright did with Shaun of the Dead, Pegg and Nick Frost have created an homage to their favorite sci-fi films. So many of the references are ones that are integrated into our culture, coming from long-popular movies, but it’s possible to miss some if you aren’t quite up on the genre....

Babylon 5 from the Beginning: The Parliament of Dreams

If “Infection” is my least favorite Season One episode, then “The Parliament of Dreams” ranks up there as one of my favorites for the season. The episode is the first time G’Kar is really put at the center of a story (as I’ve mentioned previously, I was a big G’Kar fan), reveals some of culture of the different alien races, and even gives the Commander a romantic connection, although...

Raids of Warcraft: Bastion of Twilight – Valiona and Theralion

Pressing further into the Bastion of Twilight this week. With Halfus Wyrmbreaker down, three normal bosses remain, and it’s not a lengthy trek to the next encounter, so let’s get rolling. Immediately past Halfus, the raid will find a lengthy staircase descending further into the dungeon. Despite the numerous foes waiting at the top of the stairs, and all along the length of it, the real danger...

Where Have We Seen Battle: Los Angeles Before?

One of the biggest criticisms of Battle: Los Angeles is how cliché and derivative the story is. Even as someone who mildly liked the movie, it’s hard to ignore how much of the movie we’ve seen before in different forms. Reading through the reviews, the natural comparison for most people to make is Independence Day, but I propose many of these elements are more solidly connected to other movies...

Margaret’s Trailer Park: Super 8

The trailer for Super 8 has a lot of hype going on around it and after time and again of people mentioning it I thought I had better have a look for myself. Written and directed by JJ Abrams of LOST fame and Cloverfield, Super 8 is a tale of a group of children out to make a small home movie when they witness what at first appears to be an innocent train crash. Shortly after the train wreckage event...

Dragon Age Legends Beta Keys Available Here

I’m behind the times a bit. I still haven’t gotten into the console versions of Dragon Age, and I mean I haven’t even played Dragon Age: Origins. I want to, but somehow the game has escaped my grasp… and my available time. I have gotten into Dragon Age Legends, however. Legends is part of BioWare’s attempt to extend their franchise beyond the normal console/PC games. Designed...

Torchlight [Xbox Arcade]

My eyes are bloodshot,; twitching from lack of sleep and the rapid action on the screen in forms of magic being abused in a blatant disregard for all that is holy. My torx screwdriver set has already been needed once today. I had to confirm the A button on my Xbox controller was indeed destroyed upon repair. It is. It gave me another reason to blow $50 for a new Wireless Black Microsoft Controller....

Babylon 5 from the Beginning: Infection

“Infection” may very well be my least favorite episode of Babylon 5. It is, at the very least, a weak spot in the first season. Others would argue that “Grey 17 is Missing” is the weakest episode of the series, but there are at least some story arc developments in that episode, even if that is overshadowed by a weaker story. Here, you don’t even get that. Okay, maybe you get a small bit of...

Home Entertainment Pick of the Week: The Fighter

Making a pick this week from the home entertainment releases isn’t very challenging. There just isn’t a whole heck of a lot coming out. I have to admit, there’s a guilty-pleasure part of me that wants to see just what Nicole Kidman does in a movie called “BMX Bandits,” but not enough to promte the film beyond this sentence. Hereafter looked promising, but received a critical lashing at the...
