Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Xbox 360 / Playstation 3) [Review]
There are a decent amount of hardcore gamers who believe Final Fantasy XIII was the weakest game SquareEnix made in the lifetime of all Final Fantasy. I don’t follow this logic since I think SquareEnix took a different route in telling and outlining a story in the Final Fantasy realm while creating an enjoyable, albeit linear, game experience. I will agree Final Fantasy XIII is more movie-oriented...
Sony Vita [Review]
I stated in my review of the Nintendo 3DS how much I dislike reviewing hardware since people are biased from the manufactures’ standpoint right off the bat. This review is similar to the 3DS piece since it’s a new foundation for all mobile Vita nonsense to come out of Sony for the next 5-10 years. Comparing the PSP to the Vita is similar to comparing a Dodge Viper SRT to a Pinto Station wagon:...
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC: Steam) [Review]
What happens when you take Baseball great Curl Shilling, award-winning fantasy and sci-fi author R.A. Salvatore and brilliant comic-book author, and artist Todd McFarlane along with a design studio purchased from THQ called “Big Huge Games” (Creators of the Rise of Nations trilogy of games as well as Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties) to create Mr. Shilling’s wet dream come...
The Darkness 2 [PC Review]
Dual-wielding is for n00bs. The Darkness 2 takes the story-arc created with the first Darkness game and puts it on a linear shooter through a short psychosomatic made-for-television movie, of sorts. The biggest change, if you enjoyed the first Darkness, is the change in how the game itself plays. Darkness 2 is more of a Battlefield or Call of Duty-style game where the first Darkness had more...
King Arthur II: The Role-Playing Wargame [PC]
I love games based on historical facts such as the Total War series of games, and I also enjoy the games where the facts blur together into the proverbial fire for the more fantastical element of storytelling. King Arthur II is more of the latter. The quests and trials of King Arthur the human have been well documented many times in different cultures, however this version is more along the lines...
Amy [Playstation Network, XBox Live]
I first have to apologize for everyone I know named Amy and Lana. Please know this article is not targeting you, rather specific characters in the worst game ever conceived. These words I write may be harsh, but they are in no way reflecting real-life people I’m friends with, only imaginary and unfinished game design – the worst the world has ever seen.
As many long-time readers may...
NFL Blitz – [Playstation Network / XBox Live]
As a writer, I’m always berating myself for what I feel is “duplicate storytelling.” I don’t mean telling the same story over and over – too easy. I mean writing about comparative stories in reviews to other stories compared in reviews. For example:
“Do you remember when games were fun? Atari 2600 sold thousands upon thousands of games and all of them – at best – the graphics...
Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo 3DS) [Review]
In preparation for reviewing this game, since many 3D games and videos give my oh-so-sensitive brain a freaking killer migraine by sending millions of microscopic ninja marines through my pupils and into my main cortex to start stabbing whatever they can find into grey matter, I took heavy doses of Vicodin, Advil, Clonazepam and washed them all down with a tall glass of Jack Daniels. Drinking and...
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword [Review]
I could go on and on about how Zelda changed my life, but I won’t, because it isn’t true. I hated the Legend of Zelda. I hear the collective gasp as the air in the world decreases but hear me out: My friend Jason had a Nintendo in 1987. We were both nine-year old and he lived down the block from me. We would go to the local video store and rent games to play over the weekend by returning...
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim [Review]
Trying to review Skyrim in 20-30 hours is next to impossible. With the bevy of other titles sitting next to me as I write this, I also fear I may not be able to finish Skyrim, as much as I want to. The game is beautiful; what I would expect from a franchise with a storied history as deep and rich as the Elder Scrolls.
I’ll get the downfall of Skyrim out of the way first, so the rest of the time...
