Margaret's Trailer Park: Rango

Rango.jpg

In the desert there are many natural dangers and small western towns full of vigilantes, as well as dirt, sand, and scorching sun in every direction. There is also Rango. Rango features the poor and sadly unaware lizard, voiced by Johnny Depp, as he makes his way through the desert and into distant saloons populated by badgers.

Weekly Blend #220 - With Lindsay

podcast220.jpg

Margaret gets a new moniker this week, as the Weekly Blend crew returns to discuss Alice in Wonderland, She's Out of My League, Green Zone, and more! We kick off our discussion of Artist of the Month Richard Dreyfuss, and explain in show references to Lindsay Lohan and Armond White. All of that, plus our take on Oscar highlights.

Alice in Wonderland

The match of Lewis Carroll’s surreal and strange Wonderland with contemporary gothic and bizarre director Tim Burton seems like it should be a match made in some sort of dark, twisted heaven, although some wondered just how far Walt Disney Pictures would let the mad director go with the studio’s name on the picture.

Weekly Blend #201 - Welcome to Zombieland

podcast201.jpg

We're back after a two week hiatus and we have lots of movies to review. Hear Jeff's comments on Capitalism: A Love Story, Rafe's reviews of Zombieland and The Invention of Lying, and Tim's take on the new television season, including The Family Guy and its spin-off, The Cleveland Show.

Closing Tabs: Here to Change the World Edition

captaineo.jpg

Each week we take note of some stories circling the Internet that for some reason, whether it be time or fate or lack of personal interest, we don’t wind up covering on the site. By the end of the week, we wind up with a bunch of tabs open on our browsers and newsreaders that just end up sitting there waiting for more attention.

Trailer For The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Comes Online

doctorparnassus.jpg

It’s been a while since we heard anything new on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the new film from director Terry Gilliam and the final project of Heath Ledger. The movie screened at Cannes to wild acclaim, but has sort of fallen silent since then. Finally, a trailer has arrived online and the movie looks even wilder than I imagined.

Weekly Blend #193 - Non-ic-Con 2009!

podcast193.jpg

We didn't go to San Diego for Comic-Con this year, instead opting to stay at home and celebrate our own Non-ic-Con. There may not be the cool guests or studio presentations, but the crowds are considerably smaller. We did get the chance to take in the latest releases, however, as well as talk to Miss March's Raquel Alessi.

Weekly Blend #190 - Anything Can Be a Movie

podcast190.jpg

Margaret sits this week out (on vacation), but we are joined by longtime friend of the show Ashley Quigg, who helps us discuss the importance of an immersive movie experience and gives her perspective on some of the anime to live-action film adaptations.

Public Enemies

With movies under his belt like Manhunter, Heat, Collateral, and Miami Vice, it almost seems natural for Michael Mann to make a ‘30s era gangster movie. It allows the writer/director to work with subject material he’s previously shown interest in (the world of crime) in a format he’s shown comfort with (a stylized version of reality).

July 2009 Artist of the Month: Johnny Depp

artistofthemonthjuly09.jpg

Much like many of the characters he’s played, Johnny Depp career really shouldn’t have worked. Rarely does an actor get the chance to redefine himself as many times as Depp has. He started off with great teen heartthrob potential thanks to roles in Nightmare on Elm Street and his part in 21 Jump Street.
