One of the Widescreen Warrior.com crew’s favorite 2010 movies comes out on Blu-ray and DVD this week: Shutter Island.

The Hurt Locker [DVD Review]

Entering the domain of the war movie is tricky territory. No longer will the positive propagandist pictures of the past or the campy patriotic cheers be acceptable. Just as news coverage of war has gotten grittier and realistic over time, so too our movies have had to evolve.

Home Theater Pick of the Week: Up

While Pixar’s Up has certainly dominated my attention over the past few weeks, leading up to it’s Blu-ray and DVD release this week, I want to take a minute to point out a few other releases below that haven’t gotten much attention. In fact, there are a couple that people may have missed entirely. In fact, the entire list of Blu-ray releases are worth scanning over this week.

Home Entertainment Pick of the Week: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

We've gotten to the time of the year where a lot of the movies we saw earlier in the year are now making their way to DVD.

Home Entertainment Pick of the Week: Battlestar Galactica: The Plan

This week’s pick of the week should come as no surprise to anyone who has read this site or listened to our podcast in the past. The new Battlestar Galactica won me over quickly and kept me as a dedicated viewer throughout its entire run. Even the between-season webseries were fun to watch, as was the made-for-tv movie Razor. Now Ronald D.

Home Entertainment Pick of the Week: Drag Me to Hell

The mixture of Halloween and Christmas themed releases continues this week, again seeing many holiday specials and treats coming out on Blu-ray. We’re more in the mood for horror this time, and as horrific as Will Ferrell’s take on Land of the Lost may be, it’s not what we’re talking about.

Home Entertainment Pick of the Week: Anvil: The Story of Anvil

It’s the month of Halloween, which means studios are quickly trying to capitalize on that by tossing out re-releases of horror favorites on DVD and Blu-ray. This week that includes the lackluster Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Wolf, as well as the long desired Trick ‘r Treat.

Give-it-away Now: Mitch Fatel's New Comedy Special DVD

mitchfatelismagicalcover.jpg

One of the side projects I started working on before Widescreen Warrior was a website focused on comedy. As part of that, I started to really pay attention to some of the stand-up comedians on television today and I found quite a few gems that a lot of people aren’t even aware of. Mitch Fatel is one of those comedians.

Give-it-away Now: How I Met Your Mother Season 4 DVD Set

One of my favorite sitcoms in recent years is How I Met Your Mother. The show has managed to hit just the right pulse with some great catchphrases (that it hasn’t worn out) and social insights combined with a killer cast. Frankly, I don’t actually care how Ted (Josh Radnor) meets the future mother of his kids.

Home Entertainment Pick of the Week: Star Trek The Next Generation Movie Collection

A couple of months ago, just in time for J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, Paramount pleased fans by releasing Blu-ray editions of the original crew Star Trek movies.
