You’ve heard Tim make his weekly predictions on our podcast, guessing how the box office numbers are going to play out as we discuss each week’s estimates. Now we’re putting them down in text just to see how good Tim’s track record winds up. Tune in each week as we compare Tim’s predictions against the actual numbers from the box office weekend, as Tim takes on the Box Office.
Here we go with another questionable week. As I pointed out when we made our picks of the week (see: In Theaters), these aren’t exactly blockbuster movies coming out this weekend. Still, they look intriguing, but are they interesting enough to get people to head to the theaters, especially when we’re experiencing an unusual warm spell for February? Tim admits his technique this week is (metaphorically) a little random, but I’m looking at his predictions and hoping he’s right. We’ll see on Sunday. For now, here’s Tim:
| 1. | Chronicle | $27 million |
| 2. | The Woman in Black | $17 million |
| 3. | The Grey | $11 million |
| 4. | Big Miracle | $8 million |
| 5. | One for the Money | $7 million |
Tim says: Well, after one of my worst performances ever last week, there is nowhere to go but up; unless, of course, I can attain that ever elusive 0 for 10. So, here we go. My pick of the week, Chronicle, will hopefully take the box office by storm. I’m hoping the masses who liked Paranormal Activity will also come out in droves for this pic. Especially since it actually looks like a decent found footage movie. Next up is the movie that could land anywhere. The Woman in Black. I have a gut feeling that alot of Potter fans may turn out for this one to see Radcliffe in a different role. The Grey should continue with its decent box office returns. Originally I had Big Miracle not making the top five. For some reason I changed my mind and am now putting it fourth. That leaves Miss Heigl, with her decent curves and non-existent acting ability to “round” out the top five. See what I did there. Well, it’s one of those weeks where I am throwing a handful of darts and seeing which ones stick. I’ll be seeing Chronicle this weekend. Hopefully you will be also. Until next time.
