Tim Takes on the Box Office: The Return of the King Continues

You’ve heard Tim make his weekly predictions on our podcast, guessing how the box office numbers are going to play out as we discuss each week’s estimates. Now we’re putting them down in text just to see how good Tim’s track record winds up. Tune in each week as we compare Tim’s predictions against the actual numbers from the box office weekend, as Tim takes on the Box Office.

We’re back to running on schedule this week, as four new movies hit theaters. Tim doesn’t seem to have much hope for the new movies, however, after he got burned last week by not counting enough on the appeal of one of Disney’s best animated movies returning to theaters for its limited run. This week he takes that into account as he offers up his predictions for this week’s box office results:

Tim’s Box Office Predictions:
September 16th-18th, 2011
1. The Lion King [3D]
$19
million
2. Moneyball
$16
million
3. Abduction
$14
million
4. Dolphin Tale
$13
million
5. Killer Elite
$11
million

Tim Says: With its limited run of only 2 weeks, I believe that Lion King will remain number 1. Moneyball will hopefully make a strong opening in the number 2 spot. Taylor Lautner will get to prove what a leading man he isn’t in Abduction, which should come in 3rd. Dolphin Tale, which would be higher on my list if not for Lion King, will open in 4th, leaving the promising action flick Killer Elite to unfortunately only barely crack the top 5. That’s my take this week. What do you think will happen?I>

Don’t forget to check back Sunday to see how Tim fared with his guesses. What are your predictions for this box office weekend?
