You’ve heard Tim make his weekly predictions on our podcast, guessing how the box office numbers are going to play out as we discuss each week’s estimates. Now we’re putting them down in text just to see how good Tim’s track record winds up. Tune in each week as we compare Tim’s predictions against the actual numbers from the box office weekend, as Tim takes on the Box Office.
It’s an odd week for predictions, with no real blockbuster coming to screens this week. Instead, it’s a one-two punch of new comedy releases: Horrible Bosses and Zookeeper. Will they take over the box office or will Transformers: Dark of the Moon manage to maintain its grip on the top spot? Here’s Tim’s prediction for the week:
July 8th-10th, 2011 |
||
|---|---|---|
| 1. | Transformers: Dark of the Moon | million |
| 2. | Zookeeper | million |
| 3. | Horrible Bosses | million |
| 4. | Cars 2 | million |
| 5. | Larry Crowne | million |
Tim Says: Well I don’t think there is any question that Transformers will stay atop the box office with a great second week only losing 33% of its take. And as much as I am not interested in seeing Zookeeper, I have a terrible feeling that it will have an impressive showing and take second place. Horrible Bosses looks hilarious and should hopefully fall in line at the 3rd spot. Cars 2 will take an expected dip to 4th. And given the lack of other movies with its audience appeal I believe Larry crown will retain more of its audience than Bad Teacher, allowing it to stay in the top 5. Next week we prepare for what will be the biggest opening of the summer with Harry Potter, which will surely obliterate the $100 million mark. How far over the mark is the question.
Don’t forget to check back Sunday to see how Tim fared with his guesses. What are your predictions for this box office weekend?
