I’ve seen the title of Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer a lot more than I’ve seen anything about the movie. While the title has appeared on upcoming movie lists, the marketing for the movie has been virtually absent. Aside from seeing at trailer a few weeks ago in front of Kung Fu Panda 2 (which hasn’t exactly been selling tickets like expected), I haven’t seen anything else about the movie. No online ads, no images, no commercials, nothing. So it’s no big surprise to me that nobody on the Widescreen Warrior staff was interested in seeing this flick.
Of course, that lack of interest was before the movie started showing. Now that it’s in theaters, it’s getting creamed. It currently sits at 14% at Rotten Tomatoes, with some rather harsh things being said about the movie:
There isn’t even, really, any point. There is, however, throw-up, poo, pee and lots of running around and screaming. - Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger
Sure to appeal to kids of all ages from 6 to 9 who are female and have no taste or sense of humor. - Kyle Smith, New York Post
A film that little kids might find perfectly acceptable. Little, little, little kids. - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times
As usual, a critical bashing isn’t enough to keep audiences away from a movie, so it’s very possible some of our readership has seen the movie. Here’s your chance to rate the movie and sound off with your own review in our comments section below. Who knows, maybe you’ll even convince some of our other readers to see the movie… or to steer clear of it.
