Part of looking at movies does involve the business side of show business. We try to have a little fun with it, as each week Tim makes his predictions as to how movies will perform at the Box Office. Then, on Sundays, we look at how Tim’s predictions fared.
Earlier this week Tim made his predictions, anticipating the new Pirates movie to break the $100 million mark. With On Stranger Tides being the only big release this week, it’s pretty much a no-brainer that it would come in first, but how much money would it make? That’s where our man has had a little bit of trouble figuring things out so far this year. So, how did Tim do this week?
| 1. | Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides | million |
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides | million |
| 2. | Thor | million |
Bridesmaids | million |
| 3. | Bridesmaids | million |

Tim’s numbers are so on the money it’s almost eerie, but the line up of movies is a bit off. Unfortunately, Tim didn’t quite go with his gut. When I told him late in the week that Variety was reporting how well Bridesmaids was doing during the week (out performing Thor in the weekday take), he admitted he almost reversed the two movies in his predictions. Looks like he should have, since the Kristen Wiig comedy is quickly becoming the little comedy that could. The big surprise is that Rio is still holding on in the top 5, although expect a certain panda to probably bring that to an end this week.
As usual, we give Tim credit for hitting within $3 million on the money side, which means he got a lot of green lights on the money side this week. This week challenges Tim’s predictions a bit more with two potentially huge box office draws, so be sure to tune back in Tuesday for Tim’s predictions, as Tim Takes on the Box Office.
