Considering how hard I was pushing for The King’s Speech as the Best Picture of the year, it should be no surprise that it’s my pick of the week. It’s still a phenomenal film, touching, tragic, and uplifting all at the same time. It’s definitely a movie I can’t wait to watch at home with my family and start lending to friends and other family who didn’t see it when it was in theaters in an unbastardized version.
Now to see it in theaters, of course, you have to endure the PG-13 cut, but the DVD brings home the full, rated-R version of the movie along with some extras. Don’t let the “R” rating dissuade you, however. Other than some cursing, which I still feel solidifies both the character and his relationship with his doctor, there’s nothing to be wary of here. It is 2010’s Best Picture, as the sticker on the cover proudly reminds you, and this is the version of the movie that won that award.
