We haven’t been reporting on it, but there’s been a lot of movement on the Green Lantern movie over the last couple of days. As of yesterday, the title role in the comic book adaptation was down to a few contenders, including the widely rumored Bradley Cooper and even Justin Timberlake (according to some venues). Sometimes it pays to hold off on reporting rumors, however, because the role of Green Lantern has been determined, with everyone’s favorite super-hero, Ryan Reynolds as the victor.
Variety reports that Reynolds is the one to land the title role for what Warner Brothers is hoping will be another successful comic book adaptation. Other information is sketchy, with the only other solid information being that Martin Campbell is directing. No budget is in place. The article doesn’t even say which Green Lantern Reynolds will be playing (the last script I heard about was a Hal Jordan script, although Reynolds certainly could pull off Kyle Rainer’s demeanor).
I have to admit I was hoping the role would go to Bradley Cooper, but Reynolds is certainly a good pick as well. I wonder how this will affect his movement on the Deadpool movie that’s already been underway. Are we heading for a summer of Ryan Reynolds in tights, or will one movie delay the other’s shooting schedule? Details, of course, as we hear them.
