I can still remember vividly the event that was V when it first arrived as a miniseries. It was the kind of television event that everyone was talking about the next day, and for weeks to come. I don’t think it surprised anyone when the buzz surrounding the miniseries led to more visits to the world of V.

Decades later, ABC is returning to V with a new version of the story. I’ve been a little wary of the idea of revisiting the miniseries; after all, a big part of the charm of the original series is in its campy nature. But now my doubts are quickly fading with a trailer for V hitting the Internet, courtesy of ABC.

Sure enough, this looks like an alien invasion in a post ID4 world. The effects look pretty cool, but the basic premise of the series is kept intact. Are these alien visitors our salvation or our damnation? As before, at first they look like a good thing (with Firefly’s Morena Baccharin serving as their spokesperson), but looks can be deceiving, and this trailer shows we might be finding something very similar to the original series underneath that human façade.
